[ Marmelete, Monchique, Alferce ]
The town of Monchique is situated in the Monchique Mountain and is surrounded
by luxuriant vegetation. In the past this small village survived from
agriculture, the production of charcoal, the manufacture of wooden barrels
and other handicrafts. Take a walk through the village and visit the
Parish Church. Admire the beautiful portal in he Manueline style, (16th
century), where you can see ropes and knots, the typical nautical motives
of the time of the discoveries. Inside you can see polychrome decorative
tiles and some carved woodwork. Foia is the highest point of the Algarve
of approximately 902 metres above seal level You can see splendid panoramic
views on a clear day. Caldas is the famous spa in one of the most beautiful
points of the region. The warm spa water (32º c) is used in the
treatment of rheumatism and illnesses of the respiratory tract. Drink
a glass of the water and admire the beautiful nature. |
